A new wave of excitement and action is upon us to make change at the ballot box! From the Presidential and Congressional elections to the Texas Legislature and city councils across the Lone Star state, hope is returning! Here in Texas, the Sierra Club is building a large and powerful volunteer Turn Texas Green team to elect climate justice candidates to state and local offices.

Our goal is to build and sustain a powerful pro-environment voting bloc in the Texas Legislature as well as local city and county governments across Texas. Why? Because our state government has enormous influence on our everyday lives, and it has been under the influence of corporate polluters for far too long! Our state’s leaders have intentionally worked to strip local governments of their power to take action on climate change. That’s why we need to build power at the Texas Capitol!

Our power is our people. We need people like you who are ready to get to work! We are looking for volunteers to help with voter engagement activities like:

Plug directly into Sierra Club-endorsed campaigns

Write handwritten postcards or letters to Sierra Club supporters

Recruit volunteers to join our team

Host a house party to raise funds for our political action committee

Why 2024 matters
​Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton have targeted and defeated legislators they deem too soft on their extreme policies. That has left more than a few House seats without an incumbent. We have identified four (and counting) House seats that could flip to pro-climate justice candidates, which, if our endorsed candidates won, would deal a huge blow to Abbott and Paxton’s extreme agenda, including their pro-polluter policies.
